Dr. A. Shajahan

Dr. A. Shajahan is an Associate Professor of Jamal Mohamed College affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, India since from 2000. He obtained his Ph.D. from Department of Biotechnology, Bharathidasan University in 1996 and his major research centers around plant tissue culture, hairy root culture, somatic embryogenesis, Agrobacterium mediated transformation and metabolic engineering. He has vast research experience in the field of plant biotechnology and served in various Governments funded projects including TAFCON project, Central Silk Board Project (NABARD) and Defense Agricultural Project (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). He has mentored several M.Phil and Ph.D students. He have been completed three research projects and published more than 35 research articles in reputed journals like Plant cell tissue and organ culture, In vitro, Plant systematics, Biologia Plantarum, Breeding Science etc. He is an editorial board member of the interdisciplinary journal JARJ and reviewer for high impact factor journals like Plant Cell Tissue and Organ Culture (Springer), Biotechnology reports (Elsevier), Frontiers in Plant science, African journal of Biotechnology etc. He has significantly contributed in the field of somatic embryogenesis particularly for several spice crops and filed a patent for turmeric somatic embryogenesis. He is also an editor for two books and six book chapters including Springer publications of Somatic embryogenes: Fundamental aspects and applications (2016).
